| Dr. Sam Sonntag, Department of Government & Politics, received a Fulbright grant to Canada. She will be appointed as Research Chair in Globalization and Cultural Studies at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario for the 2007-2008 academic year. Her research project, entitled "Global English and Linguistic Autonomy," will examine the possibility - and desirability -of countries and peoples with-standing the global spread of English. Sam will be accompanied by her husband, Professor Emeritus Bob White, on her year-long sojourn in Canada. Sam has previously been a Fulbright grantee in South Asia (1993-94). |

| CAHSS majors received several Outstanding Student Awards for AY 06/07. Margaret Campbell, Anthropology major, received an award for Outstanding Contribution to a Campus Club, Program or Organization. Fernando Paz, Ethnic Studies/History double major, received the Al Elpusan Award for Student Activism. The Award for Excellence in Community Service was given to Tiffany Newton, a double major in Journalism & Mass Communications and Women's Studies. Kevin Johnson, Jr., a Communication major, received the Award for Excellence in Intercollegiate Athletics. Shyama Kuver, a Journalism & Mass Communications major, received an award for her Outstanding Contribution to an Associated Students Program, while the Award for Excellence in Fine Arts was awarded to Victor Hernandez who is majoring in Studio Art. The Award for Excellence in an Academic Discipline for the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences was given to Jed D'Abravanel who is a Political Science major. And the Patricia McConkey Award winner for her graduate project was J. Josephine Johnson who in the English Department's Teaching of Writing Master's Program. | Professor of Geography, Dr. Stephen Cunha, who Directs the California Geographic Alliance, was awarded the prestigious California State University Wang Family Excellence Award in April of 2007. |

In its first year, the HSU Department of Government and Politics' Model United Nations program garnered three Meritorious Delegation awards at the 2007 Model United Nations of the Far West conference in San Francisco in March of 2007. The Meritorious Delegation Award recognizes academic excellence in preparation and participation at the conference. The three awards earned by HSU placed it in the conference's top three performers. |

| Dr. Christina Accomando, Associate Professor of English, Ethnic Studies, and Women's Studies, was named HSU's Outstanding Professor of 2006-2007.
President Richmond joined the Senate, faculty colleagues, and students in recognizing Dr. Accomando's steadfast scholarship and "life-changing" teaching, which span three academic departments, 22 different undergraduate and graduate classes, more than 20 university committees, many publications, and numerous forums and workshops. |
