Course Information—Psychology 104: Introduction to Psychology
This section of Psychology 104 is a web-based course. That is, we will not be meeting in a
classroom; all class interaction and testing will be done using computers
and the internet. We will use PsychPortal, a web system for handling homework, tests, and class
discussion (via a virtual “bulletin board”). In place of face-to-face class interaction,
you will be expected to access PsychPortal to review course material and simulated experiments,
submit assignments, contribute to class discussion, and take tests.
Features of this mode of instruction:
· More flexibility for your schedule (no time conflict between courses)
· More class interaction (all can contribute to class “discussion” with more time for your input
· Better use of campus facilities (less demand for classroom space)
What you need:
· Basic computer skills (word processing, e-mail, web navigation)
· Computer access (a computer connected to the internet, preferably your own—however, it is possible
· to do the course using campus computer labs). Mac users will need the Firefox browser (Mozilla.com).
· Conscientious working style. If you tend to put things off to the last minute and are disorganized in
· your academic work, you are probably better off with the structure of a conventional class. However
· if you like to work independently and are comfortable working with a computer, this might be an
· excellent course for you.
Required! Take this Test of Web-Course Aptitude before committing to this course.
