Chemistry
Humboldt State University's chemistry program offers a unique emphasis on laboratory experience. Our small class sizes and careful mentoring allow students to explore chemistry in ways rarely available at large research institutions. At Humboldt your experiences in chemistry labs will develop your ability to observe, interpret and reason about problems in science. The National Science Foundation recently funded a Molecular Modeling/Computational Chemistry Lab, allowing undergraduates to model chemical compounds. Several of our faculty members have been selected as HSU's "Outstanding Professor" or "Scholar of the Year."
Students may select from three options for a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry: Chemistry (American Chemical Society approved); Biochemistry (American Chemical Society approved); or Environmental Toxicology. We also offer a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry, which allows students to supplement their education in chemistry with courses in astronomy, botany, electronics, engineering, geology, physics, mathematics, meteorology, oceanography, and zoology.
Employers and graduate schools recognize the high quality of HSU's chemistry program. Over 80% of our graduates attend graduate school or accept employment as chemists. Some of the institutions at which our students have received full financial funding for graduate school include: Harvard, Cornell, MIT, Cal Tech, University of Colorado, and U.C. Berkeley. |
