English 200 is not a graveyard for bad or undisciplined writers; rather, it is designed to provide extensive writing practice for students who will benefit from additional attention and preparation. English 200 does not cover the same material as English 100I/100 does; it is not a replacement for English 100I/100. English 200 students may, with the support of their instructors, submit a full portfolio at midsemester. Those students who pass the midsemester reading will have completed their English 200 requirement. Those students who do not pass the midsemester reading will have the remaining weeks in the semester to revise; they may resubmit a revised portfolio during that semester's final reading. Students who pass English 200 (a mandatory credit / no credit course) receive a CR (credit) for English 200. The letter grade they earn in English 200 then replaces the RP they previously earned in English 100I/100. Students who do not pass English 200 receive a NC (no credit) for English 200. They must repeat English 200. (Students may now repeat a course without a petition. While each attempt at the course will appear on a transcript, the cumulative GPA will reflect only the most recent grade.) The English 100I/100 requirement can be fulfilled at another institution; however, the grade the student receives at another institution cannot replace or remove the grade received at HSU.
