Emeritus and Previous Faculty
Professor Tim Yeager

1. When did you join the Economics Department?
Fall 1995.
2. When did you leave the Economics Department?
After the Fall 1997 semester.
3. What fields of study did you teach?
Contemporary Topics in Economics, American Economic History, Principles of Macroeconomics, Economies in Transition and Development
4. In what city do you currently live?
St. Louis
5. What have you done since you left HSU?
I am working full time at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis in the Supervisory Policy Analysis unit as an Economist and Senior Manager. I am responsible for overseeing the bank surveillance activities. We track the regional and national economies, and we identify banks that are high-risk so that bank examiners can explore these issues in more detail. We also publish academic articles on banking topics. I have published several articles in banking journals since I left HSU. I also published a book entitled Institutions, Transition Economies and Economic Development, which was the fruit of much of my work during my time at HSU.
6. Do you keep in touch with any other former Economics faculty? Do you know what any of them have been up to?
I am not in touch with other former faculty, but I do keep in touch with Steve Hackett and Ken Bond, two current faculty members and friends that I worked closely with at HSU.
7. What is your fondest memory of HSU?
There is not one fondest memory. The three things that stand out are the willingness of students to question “mainstream” ideas, which made for vibrant and interactive class discussions; the professionalism and kindness of the other faculty members in economics and business; and the mid-day walks and bike rides around the beautiful campus and the surrounding area.
8. Do you have any message for Economics alumni or current students?
Keep pursuing your interests until you satisfy your curiosity. Don’t settle for anything less than a career that you find personally rewarding and enriching.
