Unit Closure

Students have been exposed to lesson narrative and activities that have met elements of the history and social science standards while teaching students about their region. They have learned about history, economics, the social sciences, the environment, geography, mathematics, and the life sciences. They are able to describe the various indicators used to measure a community's wealth and prosperity. Students can use the measurements to analyze how Humboldt County is doing in a variety of categories. Students are able to explain federalism, describe some of the strengths and limitations of the system and apply those concepts to specific issues and controversies in their region. Students understand the value of the individual in a democratic society, what the benefits of civic participation are, and how change comes about in their communities.

The future leaders of Humboldt County have been challenged to analyze the current wealth of our region and have been shown avenues for fostering change in order to create a bright and viable future for the North Coast.
