Topics to be covered include:

Chicano History, Culture & Politics
How will Chicanos affect the future of California and how have they thrived here, against tremendous odds? Explore the history of Chicano contributions to culture and politics since 1920, in California and the Southwest. Dispel myths and stereotypes and look at different perspectives on Chicanos and why these perspectives exist.
Although the focus is on the period since 1920, lessons from earlier periods will also be covered. Special consideration will be given to the role of women (Chicanas) in politics and society. Much emphasis will be given to the farm worker movement led by Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta and to immigration reform movements.
Recent politics and social movements will be analyzed, including the leadership of the mayor of Los Angeles, those in California state government, and Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico, a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Leaders from the community and Humboldt State University professors will be speakers.
