Iyengar Based Yoga for Beginners
Iyengar yoga – often nicknamed “chiropractic” or “furniture” yoga – emphasizes correct body alignment with the aid of various props, such as blankets, chairs, wood blocks, and straps, so that one can support oneself in each posture in a way that is safe and effective. Iyengar yoga’s emphasis on correct anatomical alignment often results in reducing or eliminating aches and pains, overcoming stiffness, improving posture, and reducing many ailments associated with the stresses of modern life.
This class involves more stretching beforehand, less advanced poses, more “chair/floor” poses and longer cool-down periods. It is designed for every level regardless of age and physical condition. Each participant will need: a no-slip yoga mat, a belt or strip of cloth roughly 4 feet long and two or three cotton blankets.
