Discovering Humboldt’s
Coastal Dune Ecosystem
Based on their popular Coastal Naturalist Training program, Friends of the Dunes offers this special 2-day course to introduce you to the biology, history and beauty of our unique and fascinating coastal dune system. Friends of the Dunes is a unique and knowledgeable resource for coastal dune education, restoration and land conservation and serves as a catalyst for public involvement in dune conservation. The first day is an interactive indoor class about geology, natural and human history, wildlife and natural diversity, uniqueness of the local coastal dune system and the human impacts and restoration of native habitat. The second session is a 3-hour hands-on, educational field trip to one of the protected local dune systems (either Lanphere or Ma-le’l). Participants will receive copies of the 2007 Coastal Naturalist manual and the laminated fold-out Beach and Dune Guide.
