Donovan Clark (Level I & II) is co-founder of the Humboldt County art collective, Empired Squared. He has been showing art for Arts Alive and Arcata consistently since 2001. Local venues where his work has been featured include the Morris Graves Museum of Art and First Street Gallery in Eureka. He received his B.A. in studio art from Humboldt State University and was a recipient of the Martin Wong scholarship in painting in 2005. He possesses a single subject credential in art. Donovan has recently been teaching watercolor workshops at for the Arcata Art Institute.

Alyse Laverne (Level V) is a recent graduate of Humboldt State University’s teaching credential program. She possesses a single subject credential in art and has experience teaching drawing and painting as well as ceramics at the secondary level. She received her B.A. in both studio art and art education from Humboldt State University in 2005. Alyse is an avid painter and displays her work in galleries all over Humboldt County. A devotion to painting and a passion for teaching drives Alyse’s enthusiasm for educating young adults in the field of visual arts.

Janice Sharman-Hand (Level III) holds a B.A. in art education as well as a single subject credential in art from Humboldt State University. Janice taught at HSU’s Art Academy from 1996 to 2005. Other related teaching experiences in Humboldt County include teaching art at Dow’s Prairie, Fieldbrook, and Rio Dell elementary schools through Art Line, an artists-in-schools project with Humboldt County Schools and Center Arts of HSU. She is also a muralist and has designed and supervised various public service mural projects with children, teens and adults. She says, “My professional and primary goal as an artist is to combine my love of art with my devotion to public programs that create a sense of community.

Justine Smith (Level IV) has an MFA in art from the San Francisco Art Institute, and a teaching credential in art from Humboldt State University. She has been teaching art to adults and children since 1997. Justine is a multimedia artist who enjoys making art incorporating sculpture, photography, graphic design, collage, and painting. Justine is a practicing artist and exhibits her work in local galleries
