Undergraduate Program Review
Approximately every five years, the HSU Fisheries Biology Department must engage in a "program review" process. Throughout the fall semester of AY 2001/2002, all members of the Fisheries Biology faculty met on a weekly basis for a two hour meeting aimed primarily towards an eventual production of a constructive and informed Program Self-Study document. Present at all or most meetings were the full-time tenure-track members of the Fisheries Biology faculty (Kristine Brenneman, Ron Fritzsche, David Hankin, Gary Hendrickson, Tim Mulligan, Terry Roelofs), and four Adjunct Fisheries Biology faculty members including Walt Duffy and Peggy Wilzbach (Leader and Assistant Leader, respectively, of the California Cooperative Fishery Research Unit), Helen Mulligan, and Ken Cummins. We were also joined occasionally by Adjunct faculty member Dennis Thoney (HSU's new Director of Marine Facilities). For our last three sessions, we solicited input from current students and we were joined by Kimberly Rich (undergraduate student, aquaculture option) and Bethany Reisberger (graduate student, Fisheries option, NR MS program).
As part of this program review process, we created and mailed out a questionnaire to folks who graduated from our fisheries program over the past ten years. Results from this survey were very interesting and very supportive of our program. Generally, our graduates gave our program extremely high marks, especially for the strong field orientation of our program and also for the outstanding caliber of instruction.
