Academic Programs

Canoe CreekThe Department of Forestry and Watershed Management administers several different academic programs at the undergraduate and graduate level. Follow the links below to learn more.

Bachelor of Science Degree

Humboldt State offers educational programs in Forest Hydrology, Forest Production Management, Forest Resources Conservation, and Wildland Fire Management leading to the Bachelor of Science in Forestry that are accredited by the Society of American Foresters (SAF). SAF is the specialized accrediting agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as the accrediting agency for forestry in the United States.

Minor Progams

A minor is similar to the major, but less comprehensive. Although a minor is not required for graduation, many students find that a minor complements their studies and enhances their career opportunities. Courses used for a minor can also be used for general education and a major.

Graduate Programs

The Department of Forestry and Watershed Management administers two graduate programs leading to a Master of Science in Natural Resources.

Certificates of Study

Certificates of Study are collections of courses in subjects other than those in which majors or minors are offered. A certificate of study is not the same as a teaching certificate, a credential, or a license. Three Certificates of Study are administered by Forestry and Watershed Management.

Scholarships

Every year, the department awards more than $10,000 in scholarships to outstanding students. The scholarships honor bequests to the department in the names of outstanding alumni, emeritus faculty, and other friends of the program. Scholarships include:

  • Edwin Pierson Forestry Scholarhip
  • Charles G. and Helen W. Schober Scholarship

The deadline for applications is during February-March; check in the department office for additional details. This year's winners are posted in the display case outside the department office. Congratulations!
