Conclave

A member of the Association of Western Forestry Clubs (AWFC), Humboldt State participates in several state-wide and regional conclave competitions. Conclave is a lumberjack/lumberjill competition that celebrates traditional forestry and logging skills and includes field trips to forestry operations. Typical conclave events include: axe throw, birling, dendrology, pole climb, speed chop, and double buck. The club travelled to Corvallis, Oregon to compete against teams from seven states in the 2003 AWFC Conclave. HSU will be hosting the event in the spring of 2004.

Forestry Club

The Forestry Club is one of HSU's oldest student clubs, and it strives to build teamwork skills, learn about forestry issues, and support fellow forestry students. Open to all students, whether majoring in Forestry or not, the club serves a social and professional role. Regularly scheduled meetings feature enlightening presentations which broaden the forestry students' views of forestry as a profession. Each year, the Club sponsors events like the Christmas Tree Cut and the Annual Blood Drive. During the Blood Drive, awards traditionally are given to the fastest and slowest draw.

Founded in 1900 by Gifford Pinchot, it is the largest professional society for foresters in the world. The Student Chapter of SAF at Humboldt State participates in the annual NorCal SAF activities and meetings. They also send a group of students to the SAF National Convention to compete in the National Collegiate Forestry Quiz Bowl. Currently, we are the reigning Quiz Bowl Champions!!! Over the past several years, it has been held in Washington, DC, Denver, CO, and Buffalo, NY, Edmonton, AB, Canada. This year's convention will be held in Ft. Worth, Texas in October.

Spring Banquet

Held near the end of the spring semester, the annual banquet is an opportunity for students and faculty to get to know each other outside of the classroom. We celebrate the accomplishments of the past year and bid farewell to our graduating seniors.
