Committees :: Active Directory Group
Mission
- To investigate a new domain management environment to replace the aging NT4 domain environment that is no longer supported by Microsoft. The objective is to provide the necessary migration path for implementing Windows 2000 Servers, software and workstations.
- To provide a model of a workable and productive Active Directory domain structure that would facilitate unified logons and sharing of information within a secure environment.
- To recommend to the IT Council a domain structure that would allow the migration of existing NT systems to a new domain environment over time and allow administrators to begin implementing Windows 2000 domains.
- To design an Active Directory domain structure that will coexist with existing campus DNS and DHCP services in full cooperation with ITS Operations and TNS.
Current and Future Projects
Available to work with TNS for Active Directory pilot and to serve as information source to IT staff on campus preparing to implement Windows 2000 Server.

Explanation of the Name "Active Directory Working Group"
Since Windows domain controller functionality currently requires Active Directory, we are forced to deal with Active Directory. If it didn't require Active Directory, this Working Group would not have formed. Windows 2000 Server will soon be replaced with Windows .NET Server. These two reasons make "Windows 2000 Domain Controller Working Group" an inaccurate name (besides being too long). After investing the time in learning how Active Directory can work for us at HSU, this Working Group will likely be able to serve as consultants for IT staff on campus regarding Active Directory. Although, Active Directory includes features and capabilities that are beyond our primary mission, we will ultimately get a better understanding of those features as well.
