Services :: University Notices

Overview

In support of campus efforts to reduce paper waste, University Computing Services has established a email service which will allow authorized HSU account owners (student submission see Note below) the ability to send email to all faculty, staff and/or students who have validated HSU email accounts. Only messages that constitute official university business and special university events will be published. Messages that do not have campus-wide significance will not be published. Messages must be in keeping with the University's Appropriate Use Policy.

University Notices will be limited to three, 50 character lines of text and an optional URL which can link the message recipient to additional information regarding the sent message.

Messages will be distributed in one of two ways: news and announcements will be sent out in a bulletin format on a weekly basis, and immediate send messages will be sent out on an as-needed basis. See Critical Immediate Send Messages below.

Note: Students who wish to submit a bulletin in the weekly University Notices forum first need to gain approval from the Clubs Office (707.826.3776). After initial approval from the clubs office, the request will then be reviewed by University Computing Services. If the request meets the appropriate guidelines the notification will be distributed with the weekly University Notices mailing. Please allow sufficient time of 2-3 days prior to Thursday's deadline for the required authorization.

Weekly News and Announcements Bulletin

The deadline for submitting a request is 12:00 noon on Thursday. Requests submitted after the deadline will not be accepted. There is a limit of two university notice requests per week for each university department.

Critical Immediate Send Messages

Messages concerning emergencies and other unusual events will be published immediately when approved by the President, a Vice President, the Chief Information Officer, the Chief of Police, the Information Security Officer, the Associate Vice President of Facilities Management or the Director and Information Officers of Public Affairs. These messages must be consistent with campus policy as reaffirmed by the Executive Committee in February, 2006.

Requesting University Notices Services

University Notices Request Form - For security purposes, the form requires an HSU User Name and Password. If you wish to use this service, send your request by email to unotices@redwood.humboldt.edu for review. If authorized, you will be provided with the access codes to the University Notices Request form.

Blocking University Notices

An individual has the option of blocking all email that comes from specific users or hosts. If you choose to block University Notices, be aware that you might not receive important information from the campus community because the University Notices service might be the only way the information is distributed.

Blocking Email - Instructions on using Block Sender to block/unblock email from any user, host or domain. University Notices originate from sender@axe.humboldt.edu .
