A prerequisite to using any email program to access your HSU mail is to install the HSU Security Certifcate. If you have not already done so, click Install Certificate for information about certificates and installation instructions.
The instructions that follow refer to modifying both IMAP and POP accounts. The screen shots used as examples specifically illustrate changing an IMAP account. If you are modifying a POP account, the options specific to that account type will be explained
To make changes to an existing Eudora account, click to select Tools from the menu bar and then click Options.

The Options window provides the ability to make changes to a variety of email account options. The categories that can be changed are listed on the left side of the screen and accessed by clicking the desired category.

Select the Getting Started category and make any necessary changes to the information displayed so that your HSU email account, name and so on are shown. Your IMAP Mail Server should be set to imap.humboldt.edu as shown above. If you are modifying a POP account, or trying to change your IMAP account to a POP account, change the Mail Server (Incoming) box to show pop.humboldt.edu.
BE CERTAIN that the Allow Authentication box remains unchecked.
Next, click to select the Checking Mail category to display a window similar to the window shown below.

Click the down-arrow to activate the drop-down box labeled Secure Sockets when Receiving. Click to select Required, Alternate Port.
Select the Incoming Mail category. Depending on the desired Server Configuration, click to select either POP or IMAP.
If you selected an IMAP configuration, a window similar to the following will be displayed. For your email folders to show up properly in Eudora, type mail/ in the box below the heading IMAP Mailbox Location Prefix.

If you selected a POP configuration, a window like the one below will be displayed. If you want to leave mail on the server, click the appropriate box. Be sure to select an option to delete that mail so that your account doesn't fill up with unnecessary messages.

Click to select the Sending Mail category. Verify that your email address is displayed correctly. If not, type in your complete email address.

If you frequently send mail to other HSU email addresses, type humboldt.edu in the box labeled Domain to add to unqualified addresses. This change will allow you to type in only the User Name portion of an address, such as abc###, rather than having to type the full email address abc###@humboldt.edu.
Verify that both the Allow Authentication and Use submission port (587) boxes remain unchecked.
Click OK to exit the setup process.
The first time you use Eudora to access your HSU email account, provided that you installed the required Certificate, a message will be displayed asking if you want to trust this Certificate for future sessions. Click Yes.
