Companer@s: We write to officially declare our adherence to La Sexta Declaracion and La Otra Campaña. We have been active in supporting La Otra since its announcement with the Sixth Declaration during the summer of 2005. Since that time we have read and reflected on the significance of the Sexta while we have organized events informing our local community about La Otra and attended a number of gatherings that have formed part of La Otra in Mexico. Prior to the Sixth Declaration we have also actively participated in the formation of a national and regional network of organizations and individuals in solidarity with the Zapatistas and the base communities in Chiapas. More importantly, our long history of solidarity as Accion Zapatista de Austin and more recently as Accion Zapatista de Humboldt has sought to go beyond solidarity by seeking ways to organize ourselves as a political force in our local communities. As we have supported the provocations of the Zapatistas since 1994, we unequivocally embrace the political possibilities presented by the Sixth Declaration and La Otra. And since we are Zapatistas wherever we are, we continue to share our dreams of a “world where many worlds fit,” without racism, capitalism, and gender based oppression. We see the interventions, proposals and analysis in La Sexta informing our struggles against what we refer to as a war against people of color at home and abroad, a struggle that we agree is best taken up “from below and to the left.” We are proud to continue to walk with [the Other Campaign and the Zapatistas in struggle while we struggle in our own communities and we thank you, the Zapatistas, for sharing your word and inviting companer@s everywhere to share their own word and to engage one another on how to create a new world where we all can live with dignity. Seguimos, Accíon Zapatista de Humboldt |
