The Reusable Office Supply Exchange provides the campus community of HSU , and the local community, with the means to exchange reusable office and school supplies. This program coordinates the retrieval, storage, and distribution of these supplies in order to prevent their disposal as waste.
Reduce waste and save money by either donating or receiving used office and school supplies. The program is FREE and is available to campus departments, administration, students, and student clubs and organizations.
Typical items accepted for exchange include tape, staples, paper clips, pens, pencils, calculators, notebooks, binders, folders, envelopes, computer accessories, typewriter supplies, white and colored paper- just about any office supply imaginable! Supplies are logged out so the program can track the replacement value and to see who using the program and who isn't.

Humboldt State University’s Campus Recycling Program, established in 1987, expanded in 1996 to include the Reusable Office Supply Exchange (ROSE) Program, which facilitates the salvage and reuse of office and school supplies among students, staff, and faculty across campus. ROSE coordinates the retrieval, storage, and distribution of reusable office equipment and supplies in order to prevent their disposal as waste. Humboldt State students conceived the idea of the ROSE program after learning of a similar program initiated by students at the University of Oregon. Noticing the huge waste of valuable resources that easily could be diverted from the landfill to people who needed them, HSU students were motivated to make a significant impact on waste reduction on campus. The ROSE program accepts all unwanted and discarded office supplies and redistributes them to the campus community.
Just last semester over 1,100 people participated in the program and diverted over $12,000 worth of school and office supplies! Great job everyone! Thanks to all who have chosen to Reuse with R.O.S.E.!
The amount diverted is calculated by the number of each item and the price of each item found in office supply catalogs. As more and more people utilize the program more and more supplies are being reused and not trashed into a landfill.

The R.O.S.E. Storehouse is a room on campus where all the supplies are stored. It operates on the Honor System, ROSE staff are only available at certain times. Located at Warren House 53, next to Campus Apts. Look for the R.O.S.E. sign when you get to Warren House 53, it will direct you to the storehouse. Donations may also be dropped off here.
