Getting Started with HOP
Student Orientation, Advising and Registration For All New Students
We are very pleased to welcome you to Humboldt State University. We aim to provide you with a strong start and the foundation for a successful experience at HSU. The mandatory Humboldt Orientation Program sessions (HOP for short) allow you to receive advising, will orient you to the university, and will teach you how to register for your first semester classes. All of our staff members are eager and ready to help you through the process of joining the HSU community.
Each session will
- Provide you with academic and major advising
- Provide assistance with schedule planning and registration for Fall 08 classes
- Provide social programs and share social opportunities and expectations
- Acquaint you with the Humboldt State campus and surrounding community
- Inform you about degree requirements, course offerings, and academic support services
- Create connections with faculty, staff, administrators, and current students
- Provide an orientation for family and guests of new students
Peer Groups (peer advising) are the heart of Humboldt's HOP sessions. Much of the experience is built around a series of peer group meetings. Current students serve as peer counselors. Each peer counselor has attended a semester-long training course and is well-versed on Humboldt State's degree requirements.
You can prepare yourself for HOP by learning how to plan your Bachelor’s Degree.
