TII ~ Telecommunications Infrastructure Initiative
Welcome

Revised:  1 April 2004

The California State University System has embarked on a project as part of its Integrated Technology Strategy (ITS) to improve the communications transport system for voice, data, and video. This project has been designated the Telecommunications Infrastructure Initiative or TII. More information is available on the CSU site; http://tii.calstate.edu/.

This ITS-TII is a systemwide effort to implement a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure across and among the 23 CSU campuses.  The scope of the ITS-TII is limited to state-owned, permanent buildings. For these buildings, it includes:

-Inside and outside plant cable and wire facilities,
-Design, construction, installation, and all activities associated with
  "building out" the infrastructure,

-Media, pathways, spaces, and terminal resources required for
  provision of intracampus communications:

-Wireline, fiber, wireless distribution facilities, riser cable, and
  inside wire,

-Terminal resources, wire frames, bridges, hubs, routers,
amplifiers, line extenders, LANs, WANs, and video facilities
  and

-Required network hardware and equipment necessary for the
ongoing support of the intracampus infrastructure.

Please visit the following pages provide and overview of the TII project implementation at Humboldt State University and the latest project updates:

TII Project Objectives: Brief overview of service capabilities, including user access and support which will be available with the new network.

Baseline Design Standards: Brief overview of the design criteria for the physical infrastructure.

Buildings in TII Project: The project includes only State-owned, "permanent" buildings. But solutions are being developed for State-owned, "temporary" buildings.  University buildings are classed as either permanent or temporary.  Temporary buildings, typically the houses, are those that the campus master plan has scheduled to eliminate at some future time.  Monies for capital improvement can not be used on temporary buildings, regardless of how far in the future the building will be used to support projects.  Temporary buildings are not included in the TII project.

Space Impact: Telecommunications rooms with controlled and secure environment must be developed to accommodate the specialized wiring and equipment. The criteria for this space is described in The CSU's Telecommunications Infrastructure Planning (TIP) Guidelines. The project will impact space in all TII buildings.

TII Funding: Sources of funds for the initial build-out and equipping of the network and its ongoing refresh.

TII Project Schedule: Detailed project schedule. Major construction will occur during the 2002/03 academic year.

Contacts: Names and contact information of people in the forefront of this project.

What's New: The latest in project progress.  Nothing posted.

Construction Alerts: Near-term construction activities planned for the project.  Nothing posted.
