Join Humboldt State University students this summer for an exciting study/travel program to Martin-Luther Universität in Halle, Germany (in what used to be East Germany). Students attend classes as well as make local excursions, including visits to Leipzig, Naumburg, and Weimar. This program also includes three days in Dresden as well as five days in Berlin!

For the first time, HSU/CSU students with no German language abilities may participate in an English language group. Students doing the summer program in English will take courses in "survival German" as well as classes in English about the cultural sites we will visit.

You'll visit...

  • Händel's birthplace in Halle
  • The historic Cathedral at Naumburg
  • The Goth Fest in Leipzig
  • The concentration camp at Buchenwald
  • The culture and night life of Dresden
  • The Jewish Museum in Berlin
 

The Study/Travel Program includes:

  • All lodging, classes, transportation, concert tickets and entrance fees in Halle.
  • Tour Coordination Services of HSU and German Professors in Halle
  • Lodging in Dresden and Berlin
  • Transportation for all excursions as well as train travel to Dresden and Berlin

  • The Händel Festspiele
  • The German university system
  • Recent local history and government, both pre- and post-unification
  • Medieval life at the folk fair in Quedlinburg
  • Goethe and Schiller and Weimar
  • Germany's capital city of Berlin
    

 

The Study/Travel Program does not include:

  • International airfare
  • Meals other than breakfast
  • 1-9 Units maximum credit in German through HSU ($36 per credit)

HSU fees: Costs vary, but will be approximately $1200
International Airfare: $800-$1000

Location
With over 300,000 inhabitants and a population density of almost 2.060 per square kilometer, Halle [more info] is the largest city of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany [map]. It forms part of the booming region of Leipzig-Halle, with almost 1 million inhabitants, a state-of-the-art fiber optics telecommunications infrastructure, a skilled, highly educated work force, several universities and government institutions, the modern airport Leipzig-Halle and many individual and public transportation facilities.

Qualifications

  • Two semesters of college-level German or instructor approval.
  • Student in good standing.

Application

  • Complete the Halle Program Application.
  • Complete an Interview with the HSU Halle Program Director.
