HSU Over 60 Program

The Over 60 Program is now acceping applications for the fall 2008 Semester.

SUMMER 2008 WILL BE UNAVAILABLE TO THE OVER 60 PROGRAM

program description

The Over 60 Program entitles anyone who is age 60 or older and a California resident to attend classes at Humboldt State University for $6 per semester, plus an additional $5 campus Identification card fee for new students. Following the residency determination dates of September 20 (fall) and January 25 (spring), an Over 60 participant must have resided in California for one full year.

Participants may seek a degree (matriculating) or just take classes (non-matriculating). If you are interested in seeking a degree, you will need to follow the standard Admissions process and meet the requirements. The $55 application fee is waived for all Over 60 participants.

application

A non-matriculating, Over 60 application must be filled out and returned to the admissions office each semester that you wish to participate. Using the link below, print out the application and return to Rhonda Geldin, Program Coordinator.

The one-page Over 60 application is also available in the Admissions Office. If an application is received after the beginning of the term, there is no guarantee that we can process it in time for you to take classes.

Once an application is received and processed in the Admissions Office, you are ready to register for classes. Over 60 registration begins each semester during the first week instruction and not before. To learn more about the registration process, please attend the Over 60 Orientation.

Over 60 Program Benefits

Library: Full library privileges are available. Following registration, payment of fees to the cashier, issuance of cashier's receipt, and current semester sticker, the new student arranges with the library for picture taking on an ID card. When the card is processed, the current semester sticker is placed on the card. Each semester the Cashier, upon payment of the $6 tuition fee, issues a new sticker and the library card is updated. The $5 charge for new students covers production of a new ID card.

Easy Access: Students needing transport help on campus may check with the Disability Resource Center (826-4678) for transport service pick-up, which takes students to an easier access point near class. Most buildings with more than one level have elevators. There may be an additional fee for this service.

Free Humboldt County Bus Service: Using your student ID card, all AMRTS and HTA bus service is free. There is a lapse of this service when classes are not in session between semesters.

Emergency Services: Health benefits through the Health Center are not available to students in the Over 60 Program. Emergency services are available at the Student Health Center (826-3146).

Credit/No Credit/Audit: Classes are available to take on a "credit/no credit" or "audit" basis without a letter grade. Please use the appropriate form for indicating your grade mode option. Forms can be found in the Admissions Office or through the Academic Information and Referral Center (A.I.R.) on the first floor of the Student and Business Services Lobby.

Dropping a Class: If you decide to stop going to class or need to withdraw from all of your classes during a semester, you must go through the A.I.R. Center. The A.I.R. Center can be reached at 707-826-4103.

Parking Permits: Before you buy one, estimate how many times your classes will meet. Compare that to a semester parking permit price ($135.00). You might save money by purchasing a 1-day permit ($3.00 or parking a metered space 75¢ an hour) each time you're on campus. Don't forget about your free bus pass.
