We keep breaking records. Last year we enrolled our largest freshmen class in the history of the university. It did not take us long to break that record. This year 1200 freshmen (150 more than last year) will enter Humboldt State University as part of the class of 2013. There are two main reasons for the continued interest and growth of HSU:
1. Quality of education - students are able to focus on their academics in a setting that is conducive to research, field work, and scholarship. Where else can you, within minutes, be in a Redwood forest studying fauna, or on a research vessel towing for Plankton in the Pacific Ocean, or directing your very first independent film.
2. Quality of life - students are free to pursue their education and extra-curricular activities in an environment where the Pacific Ocean meets the vast Redwood forest, where walking and bike riding are a way of life, where traffic is not even a possibility, and where you are never without a view.
Visitors to campus this fall will have the opportunity to see the beginning construction of our new residence hall on Harpst Street, tour our newly renovated education building, Harry Griffith Hall, and see the many aesthic changes to the campus grounds.
If you are considering Humboldt State for Fall 2009, you will need to apply between October 1 to November 30. It is very likely we will close admission for Fall 2009 on midnight November 30. I should also mention the earlier you apply, the faster you will receive an admission decision. Students applying for admission on November 30 most likely will not receive a response until January or February due to the quantity of applications we receive on that day.
Another option is to attend our Fall Admission Day on Saturday, October 25. It is an opportunity for you to sit down with an admission counselor to have your application reviewed and receive an admission decision. In addition, campus and housing tours will be available throughout the day as well as academic open houses. Registration will soon be available at www.humboldt.edu.
Enjoy the remaining days of summer. If you happen to be in the area on a camping trip or just driving through, stop in to say hello.
