Driving to Humboldt State

Arcata lies along U.S. Hwy 101 near Eureka. It takes about five hours to drive to Arcata from San Francisco or Sacramento, and we are about two hours from the southern Oregon border.

To get to the HSU campus:

From U.S.-101 South, take the Sunset Ave exit, turn left on to Sunset Ave, right on L.K. Wood Blvd and left onto Harpst Street.

From U.S.-101 North, take the 14th Street exit, continue straight onto L.K. Wood Blvd and turn right onto Harpst Street.

If you are coming from the Sacramento area, guests have informed us that they prefer Hwy 20, a less mountainous and 'windy' drive to Hwy 299. Watch for the Humboldt State University off-ramp (14th Street) and signs to the campus.

If you are coming from southern California, we recommend taking I-5 North to the I-580 West to the U.S.-101 North. Mapquest directions recommend Hwy 299, however we recommend avoiding Hwy 299. (Hwy 299 is a very 'curvy'.)

Arrival by Bus

Greyhound and Amtrak Bus Lines and Redwood Transit serve the Arcata/Eureka area. Be sure to take the bus to the Arcata station, which is near the campus. From the bus station, you can walk or take an Arcata-Mad River Transit System bus to the campus for $1.00.

Parking

Parking will be free for all Preview Visitors throughout campus on both Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12, except at any parking meter marked 'City of Arcata'. Please park in the General/Staff parking lots or at any university parking meter.
