Mechatronics & Design Lab (MDL)
Director: Dr. Cyrus Raoufi
The Mechatronics and Design Lab (MDL) is equipped with computers, software, and equipment at every workstation. The mechatronics portion of the lab offers students a unique chance to gain hands-on experience with sensors, actuators, microcontrollers, circuit design, and data acquisition systems. The mechatronic software and equipment currently consist of:
- NI LabVIEW
- Automation Studio
- Hydraulic Testing Units
- Pneumatic Testing Units
- NI ELVIS/Quanser DC motor Control Bundle
- NI Data Acquisition Platform
The design software currently consists of:
- SolidWorks with Cosmos
- AutoCAD
- MasterCAM
- Quality Companion
- Minitab
- Microsoft Project Management
A Rapid Prototyping Machine allows students to fabricate complex models and parts quickly from 3D solid models created by the design software
Classes include: Mechatronics, Electronics and Electricity, Industrial Control Electronics, Principle of Industrial Design, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Mechanical and Ergonomic Design, SPC and Quality Systems, and Fundamentals of Project Management.
