Friend Of the Arcata Marsh (FOAM) is self sustaining through membership fees, donations, and the volunteer efforts of the surrounding community. FOAM fundraising helps to support implementation of the educational displays at the Interpretive Center, tours at the Marsh, and many other community projects (FOAM 2008). An example of an interpretive display is seen in Figure 2 below.
FOAM is always accepting new members; the cost to join depends on the category of membership. (FOAM 2008)
FOAM is managed by a board of directors. There are as many as eleven members on the board and are elected to three-year terms for a maximum of two consecutive terms. Elections for board positions are held every every September. The FOAM Board of Directors, as of May 2008, are (Upwind 2008):
The FOAM Board meets every second Thursday of the month at the Interpretive Center. The meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. and are open to the public.
