The HSU Art Galleries

Humboldt State is committed to the arts. HSU's extensive permanent art collection is on display throughout the university's buildings and grounds. In addition, there are formal gallery spaces both on and off campus. The Reese Bullen Gallery and the Native American Arts Gallery are located on the HSU campus, while the HSU First Street Gallery is located nearby in Eureka. Each gallery is dedicated to providing students with art exhibition and gallery management experience.

Reese Bullen Gallery

The Reese Bullen Gallery is named in honor of a founding professor of the Art Department and has been an HSU institution since 1970. Located within the Art Building, the gallery houses the University's permanent collection of art and sponsors exhibitions of works by professional artists related to our many areas of instruction. The Reese Bullen Gallery also presents an annual exhibition of student art–the ever-popular Juried Student Exhibition.

Native American Arts Gallery

The Native American Arts Gallery, located on campus in the Behavioral & Social Science Building, highlights the work of contemporary and traditional Native American artists. Through a partnership with HSU's Center for Indian Community Development, the gallery seeks to broaden the relationship between Humboldt State University, Native populations and the local community through its exhibitions.

HSU First Street Gallery

HSU First Street Gallery is located off campus, at 442 First Street in Eureka, and provides students with a real world gallery management experience that makes them more qualified to pursue top jobs out of college. Students at all levels and disciplines are invited to participate in gallery activities through internships, work-study jobs, student exhibitions, and interactions with featured international, national, and regional artists.

Student Access Gallery Spaces

Humboldt State's commitment to hands-on learning is exemplified by the Student Access Gallery (SAG)–a student-run organization which provides exhibition spaces on campus for student artists' work. SAG's three exhibition spaces give students the opportunity to both showcase their work on campus and to learn about the behind-the-scenes production of professional exhibitions. The three SAG locations include:

• The Foyer Gallery, located near the art department office in the Art building
• The Karshner Lounge, located near the bookstore above the Depot
• The SBS Lobby, adjacent to the Office of Admissions
