Bill Jackson Sr.
Bill was born in 1919 in Dayton, Washington. During the Depression, Bill and his family moved to Eureka, where he graduated from Eureka High School. He attended Humboldt State University and University of California, Berkeley, and earned his B.S. and M.B.A. in business administration.
Upon completion of his education at Berkeley, he worked for an accounting firm in San Francisco and came back to Humboldt State as faculty in 1946. He established the Business Department and taught all areas of business classes and, by 1960, Humboldt State College added Business as an academic division. Bill chaired the division from 1954 to 1970.
In 1964, students named him as first runner-up for an all-college Outstanding Teacher of the Year, and within the business disciplines he was selected as Teacher of the Year in 1968, 1972, and 1973. He served as president of the General Faculty during the academic year 1968-69. In 1977-78, William F. Jackson was honored as Humboldt State University's Outstanding Professor. Bill retired in 1982, after 36 years.
Bill was active serving in his community through the Mad River Rotary Club, Eureka Historical Society, Blue Lake Museum Society, California State Employees Credit Union No. 20, Kiwanis Club, St. Joseph Hospital board of trustees, Blue Lake Elementary School Board, Humboldt County Committee of School District Reorganization, and Blue Lake Midget and Babe Ruth Baseball League.
Bill Jackson is survived by his wife of 52 years, children, and 17 grandchildren. In his memory and to preserve his legacy at Humboldt State University, a scholarship fund has been established in his name for students pursuing a course of study in business or accounting, the William F. "Bill" Jackson Business Scholarship Endowment.
