Recreational Kayaking

October 25

For those interested in learning worry-free flat water paddling. We introduce and paddle stable sit-on-top and pedal-drive kayaks. The instruction and information is beginner level: no rolls, waves or capsizing in this class, just a fun foundation for further kayak adventures.

First Aid and Adult CPR/AED

October 26
This five hour course gives individuals in the work-place the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive. The course contents include how to recognize an emergency, learning how to care for breathing and cardiac emergencies for adults, and how to deal with sudden illnesses, wounds, and injuries to muscles, bones, and joints. Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will receive certification in First Aid and Adult CPR/AED.

Stone Lagoon SUP Tour

October 26
Join us for a paddle on beautiful Stone Lagoon located along the coast north of Trinidad. This shallow bay is nestled in the mountains and separated from the Pacific Ocean with a thin sandbar. It is a favorite resting place for migratory waterfowl and there may even be an opportunity to see Roosevelt Elk grazing on the shorelines. Additional information will be mailed upon registration.

Introduction to Archery

November 8

Introduction to Archery is open to archers of every skill level. This course is designed to introduce beginning archers to the basic fundamentals of the sport in accordance with the National Training System; this includes: proper posture and alignment, aiming, the release and follow through. This class will utilize the hands-on application of using a bow and arrow in conjunction with demonstrations and lectures. This course will also discuss the proper care and use of archery equipment.

Moonrise Paddle Tour

Come for a Saturday evening paddle and watch the moon rise through the Humboldt Bay mist. We provide a choice of kayak or canoe and experienced guides to run these short hour and a half adventures.

Sea Kayaking on the Bay

November 9 (20% discount for Veterans)
Paddle the unique Humboldt Bay in a traditional sit-in sea kayak. This beginner level course explores on-water kayaking techniques and safety. With the basics of paddle strokes and proper boat fit as well as local considerations such as tide and wind, we will confidently “put in” for a two hour course.

Wilderness First Responder with Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLS

January 7 - 16

This challenging 80 hour course is designed to provide outdoor leaders, instructors, guides, rangers and travelers with the knowledge needed to deal with emergencies in remote settings. This class meets national standards for urban and extended care situations and is recognized by many agencies, schools and institutions. All levels of previous training are welcome. Successful course completion earns you a WMI Adult & Child CPR certification and a WMI Wilderness First Responder certification. EMTs will earn a Wilderness EMT certification. All certifications are current for two years. Please note that the registration deadline is well in advance of the course. Please visit the National Outdoor Leadership Schoolfor more information about the Wilderness Medicine Institute and NOLS courses.
