NAUI SCUBA Diver Course

The NAUI SCUBA Diver Course is a five week program of in- struction in the safe use of SCUBA equipment and water skills. The class consists of Saturday classroom lectures at the Alpha Training Group facility in Fairhaven, and Monday night pool sessions at the Arcata Community Pool. The course concludes with an open water dive in Mendocino over a weekend. Students will be required to provide a set of personal dive equipment and wetsuit for the open water portion of the course. Student equipment requirements are discussed in detail during the lecture seminar. All participants must fill out a medical evaluation prior to course. Evaluations are available at the Arcata Community Pool front desk.

EMT Refresher

January 17 - 19

Current or less than 1 year expired NREMT candidates who wish to maintain national certification can also take this course for the "Transition" updated curriculum. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

February 1

This six-hour course is the highest level of CPR offered and is designed for first responders and health-care professionals to help care for victims in the event of an emergency. The course contents include recognizing an emergency, legal obligation, preventing disease transmission, working with different breathing barriers for resuscitation, and learning how to care for breathing and cardiac emergencies. Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will receive a certificate in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.

Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED

February 2

This five-hour course is designed to focus on the three levels of CPR and AED. Course contents include how to recognize an emergency, preventing disease transmission, and learning to care for breathing and cardiac emergencies for adults, children and infants. Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will receive a certification in Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

February 8

First Aid and Adult CPR/AED

February 9

This five hour course gives individuals in the work-place the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive. The course contents include how to recognize an emergency, learning how to care for breathing and cardiac emergencies for adults, and how to deal with sudden illnesses, wounds, and injuries to muscles, bones, and joints. Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will receive certification in First Aid and Adult CPR/AED.

Lifeguard Certification Course

February 24 - March 15

This course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to recognize and eliminate common aquatic hazards, accidents and injuries. Participants must be at least 15 years of age and have excellent swim skills. Includes training and certification in Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Class space is limited.

Wilderness First Responder Recertification with WMI of NOLS

March 15 - 17

This three-day scenario-based course is designed as a review and practice of evacuation and decision making guidelines. It also provides wilderness medicine practitioners with current updates in the wilderness medicine field. It may be used to recertify current Wilderness First Responder and Wilderness EMT (wilderness portion only) certifications from the following organizations: WMI, NOLS, SOLO, and WMA. CPR is included. There will be a written examination at the beginning of this course. While you can also recertify by taking the two-day WFA (see below), this course is more extensive and is designed for those with previous wilderness medicine training. It also includes CPR while the WFA does not. Please note that the registration deadline is well in advance of the course. Minimum class size is 15. Swiftwater Rescue Technician Unit 1 (SRTUI)

March 21 - 23

The SRT curriculum is specifically designed for fire fighters, rescue teams and professional rescuers who need the best swiftwater training available! The course is NFPA compliant and meets the required elements for personnel reaching toward Technician Level Certification. The course is very active in the water and is suitable for rescuers with no water rescue experience. The course also offers experienced rescuers the opportunity to develop their skills and push their personal limits on and off the water with realistic rescue scenarios, self-rescue challenges, and lots of hands-on interactive rescues and experiences.
