Adults can utilize our lanes for lap swimming and exercise any hour the facility is open.
This class gives participants an opportunity to practice basic kayak techniques including paddle strokes, bracing, and the combat roll. Equipment is available to a limited number of people on a first-come, firstserved basis. Others may bring their own equipment. Contact the Arcata Community Pool to register.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) care for the sick or injured in emergency medical settings. People's lives often depend on their quick reactions and competent care. EMTs and paramedics respond to emergency calls, performing medical services and transporting patients to medical facilities. This class provides entry level knowledge and skills, as well as testing strategies for the national exam and information on how to obtain and maintain national, state and local licenses and certifications.
This six-hour course is the highest level of CPR offered and is designed for first responders and health-care professionals to help care for victims in the event of an emergency. The course contents include recognizing an emergency, legal obligation, preventing disease transmission, working with different breathing barriers for resuscitation, and learning how to care for breathing and cardiac emergencies. Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will receive a certificate in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
This is a one-day excursion to the snow for first time cross-country skiers and for those who wish to improve their skills. You will receive individual instruction in cross-country skiing including flatland and downhill techniques. Bring a friend or family member and enjoy a day in the snow!
This five-hour course is designed to focus on the three levels of CPR and AED. Course contents include how to recognize an emergency, preventing disease transmission, and learning to care for breathing and cardiac emergencies for adults, children and infants. Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will receive a certification in Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED.
Short on time? Tabata is high intensity interval training consisting of 20 seconds of intense work followed by 10 seconds of rest. Exercises include both cardio and strength training. Tabata is shown to increase resting metabolic rate hours after a workout is complete. 25 minutes 2-4 times a week can help you get in shape and feel great!

Students will have an opportunity to test for their first belt at the end of the semester and can attend some additional classes at Sun Yi’s Academy of Tae Kwon Do, here in Arcata.
