This camp is a great option for the older camper who enjoys the thrills of our Aquatics Camp, but is ready for a new twist. Join us for an exciting week of teambuilding activities, climbing on a rock wall and surfing. Th fun continues as we head out to Ruth Lake for two nights under the stars and sunny, warm days filled with kayaking, canoeing, sailing and stand up paddling galore!

Camp staff, transportation, aquatic equipment, daily snacks and food for the camp out beginning with Wednesday’s dinner.

Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center Kids Camp

Session I: July 7 - 11

Come out for a week of exploration and fun on Humboldt Bay! Campers will learn kayaking and water safety skills, as well as a respect for the wonderful marine environment that we have in Humboldt Bay. Activities include general kayak instruction and rescue techniques, Humboldt Bay ecology and history of Old Town Eureka Waterfront, and a variety of games and skill-building exercises. If you have any questions, contact the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center at 707-443-4222. Please ask for the Aquatics Coordinator.

Introduction to River Kayaking

July 12

This course will cover the basics of whitewater kayaking and give you an overview of river travel and safety. The outing includes an exciting and informative day of kayaking on one of the local rivers, the exact location depending on flows. You will learn to read water and understand basic river orientation. Instruction will cover eddy turns, peel outs, river ferrying and paddling techniques. Additional activities may include a river safety section that involves the use of basic river safety equipment specifically adapted for kayaking situations.

Kayak Fundamentals & Kayak Roll Session, or instructor approval

Introduction to Surfing

July 13

This course offers students the opportunity to safely learn and enjoy the sport of surfing! Designed for the individual having little or no surfing experience, we will focus on water safety, surf etiquette, ocean awareness, surfboard handling and technique. We will surf where the conditions are best for beginning surfers.

Teen Strength & Conditioning Program

Session II: July 14 - August 8

Open to all teen athletes, this program includes exclusive, individualized training in the areas of plyometrics, speed development, strength development, power development, agility, Olympic lifting and flexibility.

Program Fee: 
$80. Sign up for both sessions and receive $10 off the program fee.

Two training sessions available each day: either 1:00- 3:00pm or 5:00 - 7:00pm • Monday - Thursday

Climbing Camp

Session II: July 14 - 17

Learn essential climbing skills in a fun, challenging and supportive environment. Instructors teach climbing technique, safety checks, knot tying, belaying and clear communication. Our days will include team building challenges and games to help build climbing skill and knowledge, agility, self-esteem, responsibility and confidence.

Introduction to Archery

July 18

Introduction to Archery is open to archers of every skill level. This course is designed to introduce beginning archers to the basic fundamentals of the sport in accordance with the National Training System; this includes: proper posture and alignment, aiming, the release and follow through. This class will utilize the hands-on application of using a bow and arrow in conjunction with demonstrations and lectures. This course will also discuss the proper care and use of archery equipment.

Backpacking the Trinity Alps

July 18 - 20

Clear streams, grassy meadows, waterfalls, swimming holes, alpine lakes await in the Trinity Alps Wilderness Area. This backpacking trip offers the experience of back country exploration and the opportunity to meet other backpackers. The trip will consist of moderate high country terrain and cover 10-12 miles round trip. The specific trailhead and destination will be determined at the pre-trip meeting.

Kayak Fundamentals

July 20

This course will provide a fun and safe environment to learn the baseline skills no kayaker should be without. Topics will include boat anatomy, kayak fit, and essential equipment. Our experienced guides will support your introduction to a variety of paddle strokes, boat handling, bracing, safety considerations with an emphasis on injury prevention, and then spend the majority of the time working on self and assisted rescues after a capsize. Time permitting, kayakers will have an opportunity learn and practice the skills necessary for a combat roll.

Surf Camp

July 21 - 25

Surf’s up for a popular favorite geared toward both our newest and veteran campers. Participants will enjoy both group and individual surf instruction on their choice of bodyboard or surfboard. Also offered during this four day camp are ocean safety and awareness, as well as positive group and personal development. This camp is ideal for both the experienced and beginners alike.

Program Fee: 
$285 for entire camp. Inquire about daily rates.
