Humboldt Bouldering Association

September 8 - November 21
Self-created teams will compete throughout the semester by climbing routes that are rotated by the SRC staff. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced categories are all equally scored so that there is equal opportunity for everyone. Overall team scores are tallied and finals will be held at the end of the semester.

Conditioning for Climbing

From power to endurance, each class offers unique insights into the different aspects of climbing fitness. Learn how to overcome your physical limitations, leaving only the mental challenge of the climb at hand! Refer to our website for a breakdown of weekly class topics.

Introduction to Rock Climbing: Indoor

Tuesdays & Sundays, September 9 - November 16

This course is designed as an introduction to the sport of rock climbing with an emphasis on climbing for enjoyment and health. The course will cover the basic skills needed for technical rock climbing, to include safety considerations, climbing techniques, use of equipment, basic knots, belaying and rappelling.

From the basics of movement to advanced skills for pushing harder grades, these classes offer a wealth of knowledge that serve as a substantial foundation for those aspiring to become an accomplished climber, or a focused review for more advanced climbers. Women's Introduction to Rock Climbing: Outdoor

Introduction to Top Rope & Anchoring: Outdoor

November 1

This course provides an introduction to top rope climbing and is designed as a continuation of the introduction rock climbing course. Topics discussed will include an in-depth overview of rock climbing safety equipment and understanding of the principles of top rope anchor systems. This course will cover knots for climbers, building and evaluating anchor systems, rappelling on steep terrain and improved climbing technique.

Prerequisite: 
Prospective participants must be top rope belayed certified at the Student Recreation Center or have instructor approval

Self Rescue Clinic

December 6
Come learn self-rescue skills no climber should be without. In this clinic we will focus on awareness and prevention as well as effective techniques to deal with a problem. During the clinic you will learn preventative thinking, how to back up rappels and belays, escape a belay setup, ascend to aid an injured climber, and assist your partner from above. Please bring your own personal gear as practicing with your own equipment will better prepare you for real situations. Essential equipment will be provided if you don’t have you own. Prerequisite: Prospective participants must be top rope belayed certified at the Student Recreation Center or have instructor approval.
