The CNRS IT Consultants Unit recommends Dell for computer purchases. The purchasing process and the actual purchase order request will be generated by your department administrative assistant in consultation with your Department Chair. Once you have obtained a quote for the equipment, that quote should be sent to your Department Chair. CNRS IT would be happy to assist you at any point in the process. CNRS IT recommends that any faculty interested in having their department purchase a primary computer for their office keep in mind that the failure rate of laptops is significantly higher than desktop computers and opt for a desktop workstation instead. In addition to the failure rate, laptops are more likely to get stolen and are much more costly to service in terms of parts and labor. This is worth noting since the CSU is taking a strong stance with the liablity implications of any stolen equipment that contains student identifiable data.
Please keep in mind that CNRS IT must have all equipment sent to us first in order to allow us the opportunity to begin the process of configuring your workstation for use on the campus network and install the requisite software you will most likely need.
