The Office for Economic & Community Development (OECD) is the economic development portal to HSU, connecting the university’s expertise and resources to opportunities for economic development in the North Coast region of California. Our vision for responsible economic development recognizes that the region’s economy and quality of life depend on the vitality of our distinctive rural communities, the integrity of our natural environment, and the success of our business enterprises. The OECD mission is to improve the standard of living for all residents of the North Coast.
Through collaborative project planning and development, applied research, technical assistance and training, public forums, and information dissemination, OECD brings together local business and community leaders, economic development professionals with HSU faculty, staff and students to address the economic development challenges of the North Coast. The Office assists faculty in commercializing innovations they have developed. Information about these services and other HSU resources for community, business, and economic development is provided for you here.
If you have a project that would benefit from HSU expertise, e-mail us here, fill out our on-line service request form, or call (707) 826-3924. We can help you identify expertise both on and off campus. If you are interested in finding a student intern or employee, call the HSU Career Center at (707) 826-3341 or e-mail them here.
The Office for Economic & Community Development services are supported by the generous donations of HSU Business Partners, HSU Office of the President, and grants from The Headwaters Fund of Humboldt County, the U.S. Dept. of Commerce Economic Development Administration, USDA Rural Development, contracts with the California Integrated Waste Management Board, and partnerships with the Northern California SBDC Lead Center and the Prosperity Network.
