The Bob R. Kittleson Economic Education Awards Fund recognizes outstanding performance and effort on the part of students in terms of their own learning and understanding of Economics and in terms of imparting their learning and understanding to others. Professor Kittleson joined the Economics faculty at Humboldt State University in 1958. He established the original Center for Economics Education at HSU, served as the Center Director during the decades of the 1960s, 70s and 80s, and worked tirelessly to upgrade the quality of Economics Education in the region.
$1,000 Awarded to an HSU Economics major who is in his or her junior or senior year of study and who has demonstrated outstanding ability especially relating to the study and understanding of the local economy and the problems of local economic growth. The Scholarship Award will be announced in the Spring term and will be disbursed during the following academic year.
$1,000 plus applicable expenses up to $250. Awarded to the best proposal for a K-12 Economic Education project. Proposals will be due in the Fall semester for projects that must be completed by the end of the following Spring semester. Eligible candidates are HSU students enrolled in or who have completed Economics 320, “Development of Economic Concepts,” or its equivalent, HSU Economics majors, HSU credential candidates or local K-12 teachers or student teachers who have a demonstrated interest in Economic Education in K-12 schools in Humboldt and Del Norte counties. Candidates may submit proposals as individuals or project teams.
