"A Picture’s Worth…" Examining Controversial Issues with Adolescents Through Visual Art
Many teachers avoid dealing with controversial issues at school because they are not sure how to deal with them or if they should. This workshop will offer ways to explore these challenging topics with students through visual art. Strategies to discuss tough issues, dispel stereotypes, and decrease harassment will be offered by the presenters

Listen! The Kids Are Talking: LGBTQ Conversations in Elementary Schools
This workshop focuses on a case study of Olivia's own experience as a local second grader and her attempts to introduce LGBTQ topics to her class. We will view film, generate discussion, and create strategies that can be used in the near future for Olivia as well as in all elementary school classrooms

Moving From Diversity
Using a collaborative learning environment the facilitators will engage the participants in dialogue focusing how we all currently or eventually incorporate Social Justice into the work we do as higher education professionals. Facilitators will share some of their successes and failures/mistakes in this work. This will truly be an interactive session where much of the content is developed by those present. Whether you are savvy with Social Justice issues or new exploring these topics, this workshop should provide some valuable insights, ideas, and new concepts that will benefit all who participate.

Protecting the San Francisco Peaks
This will be an informative session predicated by the work of the save-the-peaks organization. A dialogue will be facilitated concerning the various aspects of the struggle to protect the sanctity San Francisco Peaks found in northern Arizona. Attendees will walk away from this session having learned a great deal about The Peaks and the proposal by the Arizona Snowbowl to expand their ski area on this sacred site using reclaimed wastewater for artificial snowmaking. After an initial presentation bringing attendees up to date and current with happenings, followed by a short screening of the informative DVD entitled The Snowbowl Effect, the attendees will be able to ask questions and foster further conversation about the Peaks and related issues, such as the potential for this case to reach the Supreme Court. Key agents in this issue: The cultural integrity of 13 Native American Tribes, The US Forest Service, the ski industry, reclaimed-water politics, sacred site activism, environmental justice, ecosystem health, and the National Environmental Policy Act.
