  What is Elderhostel?

Elderhostel is an educational adventure for older adults looking for something different. The later years should be a time for new beginnings, opportunities and challenges. Elderhostel offers you a way to keep expanding your horizons with people who are interested in the same things you are. Elderhostel, a non-profit educational organization, offers inexpensive, short term academic programs hosted by educational institutions around the world.

This is the 30th year Humboldt State University has offered this national and international program for women and men over the age of 55. It is a week-long residential learning experience that is neither intimidating nor tedious. It requires no tests, no grades and no homework. Enjoy evening programs and the fellowship of your classmates. It's an exciting way to meet interesting people from all over the country who, like you, enjoy the challenge of continued learning.

While you stay in the comfort of a local hotel, you can participate in our “off-campus” Elderhostel program. An early continental breakfast will fortify us for the field trips, lunches will be held at restaurants throughout Humboldt County and dinner will be provided at a restaurant near the hotel.

You can also attend our Elderhostel "Commuter Program" and sleep in your own bed! Join the group in the morning after breakfast, attend classes and field trips, enjoy lunches and dinners, as well as evening programs. For more information, contact the Office of Extended Education at (707) 826-3731 or e-mail.

This active outdoor program is for the physically fit and involves walking/hiking up to five miles a day over uneven ground. This program is predominately a field excursion program with four field trips each week.
