JOBS: CA State Water Board Engineer Job Opportunities

Information on job opportunities for ERE students and alumni from current CA Water Board staff…

*******************

Below is information on upcoming job openings with the California State Water Resources Control Board in Sacramento.  Other positions, in Sacramento and other parts of the State, are also available.  If you would like to consider a career with the Water Boards, please 1) take the Water Board's exams, and 2) monitor the job announcements.  There are many good opportunities to contribute to this dynamic and important work.

1. The State Water Resources Control Board, in Sacramento, will be hiring for a multi-year effort to develop flow objectives on the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta and the tributaries.  The Water Board will evaluate the effects of water quality and flow factors on the protection of fish, agriculture and wildlife.  This evaluation will then be used for water rights and water quality regulatory actions by the Water Board.  We are looking for inter-disciplinary staff in fisheries, hydrology/geology, water quality, stream science and engineering fields.  The first step in applying is a quick experience summary/exam for a Water Board classification.  Environmental Scientist, Engineering Geologist and Water Resource Control Engineer exams are found at:

http://www.waterboards.ca.gov/about_us/employment/exam_bulletin.shtml

These exams are competitively ranked.  If you are in Rank 1, 2 or 3 you may then apply for the specific positions as they are posted.  If you are graduating in December, you may take the exam now and hiring would be conditional on your degree.

The Water Board wants to fill positions quickly, so if you are interested in a job with the Water Board, please complete the exam very soon.  The position announcements will be released over the next few weeks and posted to the Internet at

http://www.waterboards.ca.gov/about_us/employment/

To be notified of the announcements as they are released, please provide your email address to Erica Garcia at egarcia [at] waterboards [dot] ca [dot] gov.

2. We will also have positions at the Water Board related to our enforcement of water rights.  These positions will be Environmental Scientists or Water Resource Control Engineers.  This work integrates field work to identify water diverters, water rights, potential harm to in-stream beneficial uses and enforcement of unauthorized activities. If you are interested in this work, please complete either the Water Board's Environmental Scientist or Water Resources Control Engineer exams.  If you want to be notified when these positions are posted, please contact John O'Hagan at johagan [at] waterboards [dot] ca [dot] gov.
