What is Exploritas?
Discover nearly 8,000 educational tours in all 50 states and more than 90 countries with Exploritas, the not-for-profit leader in adult educational travel since 1975. Alongside local and renowned experts, experience in-depth and behind-the-scenes learning opportunities, from cultural tours and study cruises to walking, biking and more.
Exploritas participants are curious, adventuresome and open to experiencing the world through learning and travel. When you participate in an Exploritas program, not only will you expand your mind, but you will be in the company of other people who believe that learning is one of the best parts of life.
Humboldt State University began offering the Elderhostel program in 1978. Elderhostel Inc. now calls this program Exploritas.
The Humboldt Exploritas program is a week-long residential learning experience that is neither
intimidating nor tedious. Enjoy evening programs and the fellowship of your
classmates, after the day's adventures.
You will stay in the comfort of a hotel. An early continental
breakfast will fortify you for the field trips, lunches will be
held at restaurants throughout Humboldt County and dinner will
be provided at a restaurant near the hotel.
Or if you are a resident of the Humboldt area, you
may attend the Exploritas "Commuter Program" and
sleep in your own bed! Join the group in the morning after breakfast,
attend classes and field trips, enjoy lunches and dinners, as
well as evening programs.

MARCH 28-APRIL 3, 2010
TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE: THE NATURAL WORLD OF THE PACIFIC COAST
From cathedrals of old-growth redwood to coastal marshes, join veteran naturalists, university faculty and park rangers to learn about the Pacific Coast’s wild spaces and the creatures that inhabit them. Study the biology of salmon, crabs and other denizens of the Pacific Coast and take a look at some of the more elusive mammals that make their home in this region. With faculty researchers and leading biologists from Humboldt State University, get access to areas available only with permission and supervision by a docent. Four intensive full-day field trips, each focusing on a different habitat, take you to Redwood State Park, Humboldt Bay Wildlife Refuge, Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary and Redwood National Park.
This program includes walking up to three miles on uneven terrain, rocky soil and sand dunes.
JUNE 21-27 OR SEPT. 12-17, 2010
