OLLI Special Interest Groups

OLLI Special Interest Groups are peer-led and focused on a topic of interest. They are free to members and meet at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center, room 208, in Eureka.

  • OLLI Book Club: Meets the third Wednesday of each month, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This group reads a variety of books. Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser will be read for September and The Golden Bowl by Henry James for October.
  • Jungian Group: This group discusses the work of psychologist Carl Jung. the first Tuesday of the month from 10 a.m.-noon
  • Geneology Group: Share your own genealogy and family history quest with others and get suggestions and encouragement. Meets the first and third Thursdays, from 10 a.m.-noon
  • Nature and the Soul: This closed group meets Wednesday of the month.

Volunteer Opportunities in OLLI

There are many ways to volunteer for OLLI. Below are several options. For information about any of these, or to discuss your options, call 826-5880 or e-mail.

  • Classroom Assistants: Work behind the scenes to help courses run smoothly, interact with faculty and students.
  • OLLI Ambassadors: Share your OLLI experience with friends, neighbors, coworkers or other organizations you belong to.
  • Curriculum Committee: Develop classes, interact with community. Meets every other Tuesday, 10 a.m.-noon, Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center, room 110.
    The current OLLI curriculum committee is:
    Eva Laevastu, Candee Kimbrell, Steve Timmons, Shirley Wiltshire, Dick Wild and Kia Ora Zeleny.
  • Advisory Committee: Create partnerships, plan for the future of OLLI , assist with Friends of OLLI. Meets the second Thursday of the month, 10 a.m.-noon, at Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center, room 208.
    The current OLLI advisory committee is:
    Pat Murphy, Ron Lynch, Eva Laevastu and Steve Timmons.
  • OLLI Skill Bank: Do you like organizing social events, writing articles or blogs, taking photographs, or traveling? Are there other skills or connections that you have and would like to use to support OLLI?
  • Course Presenters: Do you want to share your passion, develop innovative learning experiences and inspire others to learn without burden of grades or homework? Get more information about proposing an OLLI course here.
