Fire and Old-growth Forests of NW California- long-term changes

Many old-growth forests of northwestern California have burned once, twice, or more over the past decade. Despite descriptive knowledge of old-growth forests in the region, little work has focused on the response of these forests to fires.

This research has pending funding from the USDA Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Region (Region 5) and is a collaborative effort among the USGS- Redwood Field Station (Phil van Mantgem, PI), the Fire Lab, and the USDA Forest Service (Hugh Safford).
