freshman interest groups

One of the best ways to transition into college is to join a FIG-- a group of students (about 25) who take three to five thematically-linked classes during the Fall semester. Most freshman join FIGs and with good reason. Students who join FIGs tend to get better grades and have more fun during their first semester at college. See all of the benefits of joining a FIG, what themes we’re offering, and sign up here.

outdoor adventures

Backpacking, bicycling, kayaking, rock climbing, surfing, ...we offer a whole range of incredible trips that are open to every first-year student. No previous experience is needed and rental equipment is available. Our goal is to provide you with safe outdoor and social experiences that emphasize adventure, environmental awareness, education and a sense of community. See the complete list of Outdoor Adventures (and register, because they fill up fast).

living communities

You can live in a residence hall organized around a theme. We call them "Special Living Communities," and they give you a chance to hang out and learn for a year alongside people who share your interests. Themes have ranged from the Art Colony to Outdoor Adventures. There are thirteen Special Living Communities to choose from. Find out what we will be available next fall.
