People, Community, and Social Change (7 Units)

For Social Work majors, Sociology majors, and undeclared students with an interest in these subjects.

Description:

This FIG introduces students to the central ideas, values, and study of social inequalities and social justice. Combining theory and practice with an experiential component, this course examines individual and community issues with an emphasis on understanding human diversity. This FIG helps fulfill GE and half of the Diversity and Common Ground requirements (domestic).

Including three classes: “Introductory Sociology” (3 units), “Introduction to Social Work” (3 units), and the FIG Seminar (1 unit), students will be able to apply their knowledge and experience toward positive social change.
