Journalism and Current Issues in Society (7 Units)

For Journalism majors and minors and students with an interest in these subjects.

Description:

This FIG provides the ideal foundation for journalism majors/minors by including two required courses. Through a blend of theory and practice, opportunities to interact with professionals in the field, and some field trips, this FIG will examine the role of journalism, public relations and broadcasting media in our society and develop beginning reporting skills. Students will be eligible to work on the student newspaper or magazine after completing this FIG.

This FIG includes three classes: “Introduction to Mass Communication” (3 units), “Beginning Reporting” (3 units), and the FIG Seminar (1 unit). These courses do not fulfill GE requirements.
