People & Politics (7-9 Units)

Major(s):

For Political Science majors and undeclared students with an interest in government and politics.

Description:

If these first months of the 2008 presidential election are any indication, this should be an exciting fall. We will have a ringside seat for the race to the White House as well as party leadership in Congress. We will discuss the effects of propositions on California politics, and concerns about civil liberties related to the Bush Administration’s domestic surveillance policies. Students take PSCI 210, Introduction to U.S. Politics, with PSCI 280, a one-credit discussion section that meets each week. PSCI 210 fulfills one of the requirements for the Political Science major, and in PSCI 280, students will have an opportunity to discuss current events in American politics in a smaller group environment. Some AP English students can be accommodated.

This FIG includes three classes: “Intro. to US Politics” (3 units), “English Composition” (3 – 5 units), and the FIG Seminar (1 unit).
