THIS FIG IS FOR BOTH MEN AND WOMEN. Suitable for many majors as the courses in this FIG fulfill General Education requirements and fulfill the Diversity and Common Ground requirement. Excellent for anyone interested in or committed to social justice. Excellent for Women Studies majors and Ethnic Studies majors and minors and undeclared students with an interest in these areas of study.

Description:

The FIG begins the exploration of issues of oppression and social transformation, focusing on the comparative history of ethnic groups in the US and paying critical attention to diverse women’s lives and experiences. Some AP English students can be accommodated. Resident students are also encouraged to consider the Special Living Community of the same name.

This FIG includes four classes: "Introduction to Women's History" (3 units), "Introduction to U.S. Ethnic Studies" (3 units), "English Composition" (3 – 5 units), and the FIG Seminar (1 unit).
