Major(s): Suitable for all majors, undeclared students, and any students with an interest in the environment, natural resources, environmental policy, leadership, advocacy, or social change.

Description: This FIG combines the critical thinking, researching, writing, and speaking skills of English 100 “First Year Reading and Composition” and Communication 100 “Fundamentals of Speech Communication,” with a focus on Environmental advocacy and activism. You will explore contemporary and local environmental issues of interest both theoretically and practically, through classroom and community-based activities and experiential education components. While learning about key issues of environmental and social significance, you will also study and practice a variety of strategies for affecting social change, and improve both your persuasive writing and speaking skills, so that you may become the agent of change you want to see in the world.
