We are more than just a collection of buildings and pop quizzes. We are a community.

Congratulations on your admission to Humboldt State University. On behalf of everyone here at HSU, we would like to welcome you to the campus community. The Humboldt Orientation Program is your chance to explore Humboldt and get down to the facts of college life: registering for classes, academic planning, degree requirements and all the stuff that may seem confusing before the first day of class. Find out more.

One of the best ways to transition into college is to join a FIG-- a group of students (about 25) who take three to five thematically-linked classes during the Fall semester. Most freshman join FIGs and with good reason. Students who join FIGs tend to get better grades and have more fun during their first semester at college. See all of the benefits of joining a FIG, what themes we’re offering, and sign up here.

Backpacking, bicycling, kayaking, rock climbing, surfing, ...we offer a whole range of incredible trips that are open to every first-year student. No previous experience is needed and rental equipment is available. Our goal is to provide you with safe outdoor and social experiences that emphasize adventure, environmental awareness, education and a sense of community. See the complete list of Outdoor Adventures (and register, because they fill up fast).

You can live in a residence hall organized around a theme. We call them “Special Living Communities.” Special Living Communities, and they give you a chance to hang out and learn for a year alongside people who share your interests. Themes have ranged from Hip Hop Culture to Outdoor Adventures. There are nine Special Living Communities to choose from. Find out what we will be available next fall.

Part of what makes HSU a great place to live are all the events that bring our students, faculty, friends and family together. Humboldt State is home to more than 180 clubs that promote everything from your academic major to expanding cultural perspectives. Why join a club? Because they are fun and a great way to make your mark on HSU’s ever evolving community. Find out more about HSU's clubs and community.
