Founded in 1983, and sponsored jointly by the HSU Music Department and the HSU College of eLearning & Extended Education, the Humboldt Music Academy offers a program of individual and classroom music instruction and performance ensembles for students ages 2-18.
The
Academy teaching staff includes members
of the HSU Music Department faculty, augmented by advanced music
students and other qualified members of the local community.
Three terms fall, winter and spring are offered during the school year, each consisting of nine sessions. Classes are held on the HSU campus on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Private lessons may take place on Saturdays or during the week at the convenience of the teacher and student.
The Academy office, located in Music 128, is open Saturday class days 9 a.m.-1 p.m. for adds, drops, payments, refunds, class or teacher locations, schedule changes, messages, lost & found items, and general information.
Several
informal Saturday afternoon Open House Concerts are held each
term to give children enrolled in private lessons and chamber
music a chance to perform for parents and friends. On the Sunday
afternoon following the last class session, a more formal End-of-Term
Concert is presented in Fulkerson Recital Hall showcasing representative
Academy classes and ensembles. See calendar.
As part
of the Academy's ongoing interest in parent feedback, the Parents'
Advisory
Committee serves as a forum for suggestions and inquiries. Any
parent interested in joining should contact the Director.
One of the purposes of the Academy is to support and enhance the existing music programs in the public schools, thus any student enrolled in a performance ensemble is required to participate in the music program at their school, if one is available.
A registration form is published each term listing current class offerings and class times, along with a Private Lesson Fee Schedule listing instructor rates. A student may register for one or several classes at the Academy. The age ranges listed are guidelines to help in choosing classes for your child. On Registration Day, instructors are available to answer questions about their classes and make arrangements for private lessons.
